Food Is the First Language

Every diaspora begins at the table. From Jollof rice in Peckham to hand-pulled noodles in Flushing — the food tells the real story.

Specific. Not General.

We don't say "Asian food" or "African culture." We say Yoruba. Tamil. Oaxacan. Sylheti. Specificity is respect.

No generalizations. No stereotypes. Just specific communities, real places, and deep respect. This is how the world actually lives.

Understanding DiasporaDays

What is a "Diaspora Day" and how does it work?

A Diaspora Day is a full-day itinerary designed to immerse you in a specific diaspora community within a city. It covers morning to night — from where to eat breakfast to where to experience evening culture — all within neighborhoods where that community actually lives and gathers. It's not tourism; it's respectful immersion.

Why do you use specific diaspora names instead of broad labels?

Because specificity is respect. "Asian food" erases the difference between Cantonese dim sum and Tamil dosai. "African culture" ignores that Yoruba, Igbo, and Somali communities have completely different traditions. We name specific communities because each one deserves to be seen as itself — not as a category.

How do you verify your recommendations?

We use a tiered evidence system. Tier A is community-confirmed information from primary sources. Tier B comes from reputable local media and cultural institutions. Tier C is verified traveler reports with specific detail. Every listing shows its evidence tier, confidence level, and last-reviewed date.

Is this "ethnic tourism"?

No. DiasporaDays is designed as a respectful cultural immersion and local-economy support system. We provide guidance on how to show up respectfully, what behaviors to avoid, and how to support community-owned businesses. The goal is understanding, not spectacle.

Which cities are currently covered?

Our Phase 1 launch covers seven of the world's most culturally diverse cities: New York City, London, Toronto, Paris, Los Angeles, Dubai, and Singapore. Together, these cities represent over 200 distinct diaspora communities and thousands of venues. We're expanding to regional hubs and second-tier cities in Phase 2.
